How Much Does It cost to produce a song?

We love this article from NPR on what it costs for Rhianna to have a hit song. It’s a great read.

NPR quotes:

Songwriter and Producer - $53,000 split between multiple companies and individuals

Vocal Producer: $15,000

Mixing and Mastering -$15,000

Popsong University did some research and they found that producers charge between $200 and $35,000 plus 20%-25% of the royalties.

Piano Keyboard Authority estimates that indie song production generally comes in between $100 and $3500.

So, how much does it really cost to produce a song?

In an interview with The Setup Series, ItyDity Founder said, “You know, I talk with so many artists who are like, 'I’ve lost thousands of dollars working with the wrong people.'"

She says,

“I want to help songwriters. I want to prevent “wasted-money” from happening to anyone just starting out. I want to make it less intimidating and scary and I want to take out the risk, so more artists can see music production as something not only feasible for themselves but as an empowering experience.”

She says, “You’ve written these songs you’re proud of, you want to get the production right too - you want the production to mirror the sentiment of the songs and to reflect your authentic style.”

That’s really what most artists are after. They want to feel authentically represented, they want to be taken seriously, and at the end of the day, they want that feeling of satisfaction that you get when you’re able to accurately convey your unique perspectives and take on the world.

So finding the RIGHT producer is important.

Someone with knowledge and experience. A producer who knows what works and what doesn’t work because they’ve tried and tested it in countless situations — with different artists, in different genres, and different songs.

That sounds expensive. It can be, but

Emily found that if she supported songwriters and helped them prepare for the recording, it saved producers a lot of time. And it made the production process go more smoothly.

Producers were happy to provide high-quality production at a fixed, fair price because they knew that ItyDity artists were prepared.

And Songwriters could have greater access to top-notch producers.

It worked for everyone, thus

ItyDity was able to negotiate fixed, fair pricing.

$100 to post your song to the platform

$850 to producer your song.

Not so cheap that artists wasted money on low-quality production.

Not so expensive so that artists wasted money on inflated prices.

ItyDity lands right in the sweet spot.

How did ItyDity accomplish this?

They know the industry. They know the producers.

And they figured out a new way to prepare artists for the recording studio.

One of the innovations they brought to the industry is a proprietary AI algorithm called Music-&-Me™ that identifies your musical DNA, traits, and ancestry. (Kind of like a musical 23andMe DNA program.)

Music-&-Me™ is pivotal because it helps songwriters UNDERSTAND their style. And it gives them LANGUAGE to communicate their vision to the producer.

Before Music-&-Me™, it could take artists years to figure out this information. And it would take producer hours and hours of trial and error in the studio to figure out what the artists wanted.

How does it work?

You complete a simple survey. ItyDity sends you a complete Music and Me musical DNA report.
